Borrowed from Spanish Ixmiquilpan, from a Nahuan language, equivalent to Classical Nahuatl Itzmiquilpan, from itzmīquilitl (purslane) +‎ -pan (locative suffix), calqued from Mezquital Otomi Nts’u̱tk’ani, from tsꞌu̱tkꞌǎni (purslane).
