Etymology

[edit]

From Scottish Gaelic inbhir (river mouth, confluence) + Bervie, a river name (see Bervie Water). The 12th century form of the name was Haberberui, showing that inbhir replaced Pictish *aber (river mouth, confluence).

Proper noun

  1. A small coastal town in south Aberdeenshire council area, Scotland, historically in Kincardineshire (OS grid ref NO8372).
