Met een team vol Nederlanders lonkt nu het WK [Indonesia no longer wanted to be football's laughing stock. With a team packed with Dutchmen, the World Cup now beckons]”, in NRC Handelsblad[1], retrieved 8 January 2025:
- Garuda Squad needed to start performing, and fast. Taking a cue from countries like Morocco and Turkey, as well as neighbouring Malaysia, Mr Thohir therefore sent scouts abroad to look for talented guys with Indonesian roots. To the Netherlands in particular, home to some two million Dutchmen of Indonesian heritage due to 350 years of colonialisation and having football as its number one national sport.
