Etymology

[edit]

Attested as Het Valkhof op den Hoenderberg in 1725. Etymology uncertain. Proposed derivations from Latin hunaria (court of a hundred), Old Dutch hunderi (hundred, shire) or hun (giant) are all dubious due to a paucity of old attestations. Compare Huinen.
