[edit]- (Meerssen) First attested as hulsel in 1312-1315. Derived from a compound of Middle Dutch huls (“holly, Ilex aquifolium”) and lo (“light forest”).
- (Nederweert) First attested as Hulschen in 1790. Derived from the dative plural form of Middle Dutch huls (“holly, Ilex aquifolium”).
- (Overijssel) First attested as hulsen in 1333. Derived from the dative plural form of Middle Dutch huls (“holly, Ilex aquifolium”). See also Dutch Low Saxon Hulsn.
