Etymology

[edit]

First attested as hustinga around 822-856. Etymology uncertain. Potentially derived from a compound of Old Frisian hûs (house) and dinge (newly cultivated lands). The toponym is possibly related to Heusden and similar toponyms, with the -ingi- suffix being a later addition. Compare Heusden, Huisduinen and Opheusden.
