Etymology

Apparently named after David ten Hove (1724-1787) (name alternatively given as David Hoven),[1] a Dutch senator and botanical patron who supported Carl Peter Thunberg's floral expedition of South Africa,[2] though information on the senator is scarce beyond the naming of the hovenia.
