[edit]From Middle High German himelrīche, from Old High German himilrīchi, *-rīhhi, after Latin regnum coelorum, after Ancient Greek βασιλεία τῶν οὐρανῶν (basileía tôn ouranôn); equivalent to Himmel (“heaven”) + Räich (“kingdom”).
