[edit]Etymology
[edit]From the New Latin hydrargyrum (“mercury”), form of hydrargyrus, from Ancient Greek ὑδράργυρος (hudrárguros, “quicksilver”), from ὕδωρ (húdōr, “water”) (whence hydro-) + ἄργῠρος (árguros, “silver”) (cognate to Ag (“symbol for silver”)). Compare quicksilver.
