[edit]Etymology
[edit]Possibly from New Latin *herniāria f (“herniary, relating to a hernia”). This etymology may draw a conceptual cognate with English rupturewort, since hernias are a medical disorder in which a part of the body ruptures into elsewhere abnormally. Both are possibly named after the genus' usage to treat hernias. If so, cognate with English herniary.
