[edit]Attested as Oudelant in 1573. Derived from heer (“lord”), Oudeland (“a surname”) and ambacht (“type of fiefdom”). Named after Pieter Oudeland, a nobleman from Dordrecht who was one of the financiers of the land reclamation project which created the land the former fiefdom stood on and the current neighbourhood stands on.
