Etymology

Learned borrowing from Hittite [script needed] (Ḫayaša). The name has been compared to the ethnonym of Armenians — հայ (hay). Martirosyan derives it from Proto-Indo-European *h₂éyos (“metal”), thus "land abounding in metal".[1]
