Finnish
[edit]Etymology
[edit]The surname can apparently be traced back to Matts Harkimo, whose surname was Finnicized from Swedish Händelin in the early 1900s. Possibly a variant of the surnames Harkio, Harkki, Harkko; ultimately possibly from either the Germanic given name Harald and/or the Russian name Харитон (Xariton).
