[edit]- (Haarlemmermeer) Attested as Half wegen in 1680. Derived from halfweg (“halfway”). The settlement was named for its location halfway between Haarlem and Amsterdam.
- (Noardeast-Fryslân) Calque of West Frisian Healwei, derived in turn from healwei (“halfway”). The settlement was named for its location midway between Warfstermolen and De Leegte.
