[edit]- As a possibly habitational surname of Norman origin, from a minor place Gohier in the department of Maine-et-Loire, of Germanic origin, from the male name Godehar, Godahari, Gunherius, presumably composed of *god + *hari.
- Also possibly from Gohier, an ancient form of Godard, Goddard.
