[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Old Norse Guðríðr, from Guðfríðr. The diphthong is due to the -ð- getting a j sound before r, akin to veir from veðr.
Pronunciation
[edit]- (Setesdal dialect) IPA(key): [²ɡuyʷre̯i], [²ɡuyʷrɪ]
Proper noun
[edit]Guyri f
- (dialectal, Setesdal dialect) alternative form of Gudrid.
Usage notes
[edit]Because the diphthong in this name is identical to the Setesdal pronunciation of long y, is has often been written like Gyri (i.e. Gýri).
