Etymology

From Old Norse Guðrún where the -n is lost following nasalisation of the preceding vowel, cf. augun > augo (“the eyes”).

Usage notes

In dialects which do have definite forms of given names, the definite form of Guro is Guroa. In some other dialects, while speaking about a concrete person named Guro, pronoun ho is added: ho Guro.

The folklore character Guro, also called Guro Rysserova, is also derived from Old Norse Guðrún, in sense of the figure in Germanic heroic legends (in English texts known as Gudrun or Kriemhild). The part Rysserova means probably a horse’s tail and is not related to Swedish ryssrova (“Turkish wartycabbage”).
