[edit]From local Late Latin villa Gundilani, from an improper genitive form of the personal name Gundila,[1] from a Suevic and Gothic personal name, from *Gunþilô,[2] from Proto-Germanic *gunþiz (“battle”) and the diminutive personal suffix *-ilan-.[3]
