Etymology

From grå +‎ gard, with definite ending -n and the -gard part spelled as Norwegian Bokmål gård (the both variants are acceptable in the local dialect). Literally, The Grey Farm, although there is no farm (and never was).

The -gard part may also refer to some fenced area, in this case see also Raggarden.

Proper noun

  1. An area in Trøndelag, Norway in northern part of Bjørnli. The area includes a few living houses, a forest and a bathing area (at the Litjvatn Lake).
  2. (unofficial) The Litjvatn Lake itself
