[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Middle Low German vrü̂ntschop, which is an alternation of Middle Low German vrü̂ntschap, which itself descends from Old Saxon *friundskap, an unumlauted form of Old Saxon friundskepi, from Proto-Germanic *frijōndskapiz, equivalent to Fründ + -skupp.
The presence or abscence of umlauts in short i-stems in Old Saxon, the raising of /a/ to /ɔ/ in Middle Low German, and the raising of /ɔ/ to /ʊ/ in modern Low German are all subject to dialectal variation.
Noun
[edit]Fründskupp f (plural Fründskuppen)
