[edit]Italianization of the Sicilian surname Sicilian Firritu, from Ferra (“Ferla”) + -itu (“inhabitational suffix”), from Ferula the first element, while the second is from the reminiscence of Latin -ītēs, ultimately from Ancient Greek -ῑ́της (-ī́tēs). Doublet of ferlese.
