[edit]- (Groningen) First attested as eesdingum in 1371. Etymology uncertain. Potentially derived from Old Frisian *Esda (a personal name) suffixed with the collectivising suffix -ingi-, but this is uncertain. See also Dutch Low Saxon Aizen.
