European windstorm (plural European windstorms)

  1. (meteorology) The strongest kind of extratropical cyclone occurring across the continent of Europe, associated with areas of low atmospheric pressure.
    • 2016, Kristi L. Koenig, Koenig and Schultz's Disaster Medicine:
      From January 15–19, 2007, a cyclone over the Netherlands generated a “European windstorm” with high sustained winds and gusts up to 202 km/h.
