[edit]From Middle Irish Eógan, from Primitive Irish ᚔᚃᚑᚌᚓᚅᚔ (ivogeni, gen.sg.), from Proto-Celtic *Iwogenos (literally “yew-born”).[1] Cognate with Irish Eoghan.
