Dutch
[edit]Etymology
[edit]First attested as in thrimnithi in 850. Etymology uncertain. Potentially a derivation from Proto-Germanic *þirmina- (“terminus, extreme point”) with collectivising suffix *iþja-. A proposed derivation from Proto-Germanic *þrum- (“piece of land, terminus”) with collectivising suffix *iþi- is impossible because of the presence of -mn- in the oldest attestations. Compare Drempt, Dreumel and Drimmelen. Formerly an independent village.
