Drogerie

From Wiktionary, the free dictionary

German

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

From French droguerie.

Pronunciation

[edit]
  • IPA(key): /dʁoɡəˈʁiː/
  • Audio:(file)
  • Hyphenation: Dro‧ge‧rie

Noun

[edit]

Drogerie f (genitive Drogerie, plural Drogerien)

  1. a retail store selling beauty, hygiene and household related products as well as certain non-prescription medications, roughly equivalent to a drugstore/chemist

Usage notes

[edit]
  • In Germany, the bulk of non-prescription medication is nevertheless apothekenpflichtig, meaning that it can only be sold by certified pharmacies. In turn, these pharmacies are not allowed to sell items unrelated to health concerns. Therefore there is only a limited overlap between the products sold at Drogerien and Apotheken.
