Etymology

Portmanteau of Ukrainian Донецьк (Donecʹk) or Russian Донецк (Doneck) + Zimbabwe, meant to suggest underdevelopment, poverty, and endemic corruption. Alternatively borrowed directly from either Russian Донба́бве (Donbábve) or Ukrainian Донба́бве (Donbábve).
