Etymology

First attested as dusburg in 1025. Etymology uncertain. Perhaps a compound derived from Old Dutch dust (brushwood) or dôse (mossy fen) and burg (reinforced settlement, castle). Compare Donzel, Dunsborg, Duisburg, Duisenburg and Duisdorf.
