Dinther

[edit]Etymology
[edit]First attested as dintre in 1139. Etymology unknown. Several compound derivations have been proposed, ranging from a compound of Old Dutch *dint (“strike, blow”) and *heri (“sandy ridge”) to a derivation from Old Dutch *Dindo (a personal name) with an unknown second element and a derivation from Latin dent (“dent, blow”). None of these proposed etymologies fit the oldest attestation. Currently part of the twin village of Heeswijk-Dinther.
