Etymology 2

[edit]

Etymology 1 above yielded Dechsel or Dichsel in several dialects through shortening before the consonant cluster. The words thus merged and the fuller (thus seemingly more correct) form Deichsel was generalised. Compare Dutch dissel (both “adze” and “drawbar”).

Noun

[edit]

Deichsel f (genitive Deichsel, plural Deichseln)

  1. Dated form of Dechsel (adze).
