[edit]Attested as Domp in 1899. Derived from West Frisian domp (“chunk, lump”), here referring to a type of turf. Alternatively, the toponym may derive from the name of a farmhouse; in this case, it may derive from domp (“bittern, Botaurus stellaris”).
