From Tagalog Dayanghirang, after Dayang Hirang (the Chosen Lady), the title and name of a Tagalog noblewoman from Batangas. Mostly found among ethnic Tagalog stock in Mindanao whose ancestors bearing the surname came from Batangas during the late Spanish and American colonial periods and since postwar era. This surname is mostly borne by politicians and government officials in Davao Region.
