[edit]- A taxonomic species within the family Asteraceae – the artichoke or globe artichoke.
Usage notes
[edit]- This is now considered by most botanists to be the same species as Cynara cardunculus, the cardoon. Any reference to Cynara scolymus will always mean artichoke, but Cynara cardunculus might mean either cardoon or artichoke (in older works mostly cardoons).
