Crostwitz

German
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Old Sorbian, derived from Proto-Slavic *xvorstъ (“brushwood”). Compare Upper Sorbian Chrósćicy.

[edit]Proper noun
[edit]Crostwitz n (proper noun, genitive Crostwitz' or (with an article) Crostwitz)
- A village in Saxony, Germany, today a center of Upper Sorbian culture.
Usage notes
[edit]- Upper Sorbian survives as a community language only among the Catholic minority settling in the triangle between Kamenz, Hoyerswerda and Bautzen (excluding all of these towns). Crostwitz, along with neighbouring Ralbitz-Rosenthal, forms the center of this region and retains around 90% Sorbian-speakers.
