  All hanar have two names. The Face Name is known to the world; the Soul Name is kept for use among close friends and relations. Hanar never refer to themselves in the first person in conversation with someone they know on a Face Name basis. To do so is considered egotistical, so instead they refer to themselves as "this one", or the impersonal "it".

  Comments concerning breasts occur again with Liara’s “father” when she uses the phrase “about as useful as tits on a Hanar,” separating the Hanar from humanoid beings and rendering them as unattractive as lovers and mates to a human, despite the Asari having a history of mating with this jellyfish species (Mass Effect 3). This distinction between Asari and Hanar draws further attention to the physique of the Asari and the fact that they have all the right parts for acceptable sexual relationships with the player's avatar.
