- From what I remember about the aluminum engine in the Chevy Vagina. The block was cast from high silicon content aluminum and the cylinder bores were etched so the silicon would protrude from the walls of the cylinders for the piston rings to ride on. I imagine it would work for a properly maintained engine but that little thing called "proper maintenance" never really happens for most vehicles in the real world. I don't think many customers liked being lab rats in GM's aluminum engine experiment. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
