- Certain armadillos.
- (sensu stricto) A taxonomic family within the order Cingulata – the cingulates in genus Chlamyphorus. (pichiciegos, truncated armadillos, pink fairy armadillos) and sometimes Calyptophractus retusus (greater fairy armadillos) [since c. 1870]
- (sensu lato) A taxonomic family within the order Cingulata – all cingulates except those in genus Dasypus. [since 2016]
