Category talk:Serbo-Croatian verbs
Add topicTOPIC: Impf verbs derived by suffixation like nàpadati "to attack" etc. Throughout the Serbo-Croatian section of wiktionary, imperfective verbs like nàpadati "to attack" are treated as verbs derived by prefixation: na- + padati. Such explanation cannot be considered correct, as clearly shown by a comparison with perfective verbs like nàpadati "to fall in large quantities (of rain, snow, hail)". I suggest to change the respective derivational explanations accordingly, i.e.: nàpadati impf. "to attack" - derived from pf nàpasti by suffixation vs. nàpadati pf. "to fall in large quantities (of rain, snow, hail)" - derived from impf. pȁdati "to fall" by prefixation. The same principle applies to many other Serbo-Croatian entries like the imperfective verbs "ending with -stajati", which are clearly derived from their respective pairs of pf. aspect by suffixation: for example, pòstajati impf. "to become" - derived from pf. pòstati by suffixation (po-sta-\j\a-ti with insertion of \j\ to split a vocalic sequence). In the case of the verb stȁjati - stȁjēm impf. "to stop", which is itself derived from pf. stȁti - stȁnēm by suffixation, the list of derived terms that includes nàstajati, òstajati, pòstajati etc. needs to be deleted, as these verbs are not derived from stȁjati "to stop" by prefixation, but rather from their respective pairs of pf. aspect by suffixation: nàstajati < nàstati, pòstajati < pòstati etc. In addition, the distinction between the two verbs stàjati (< stòjati) : stòjīm impf. "to stand" and stȁjati - stȁjēm impf. "to stop" needs to be pointed out more clearly (for example stajati 1 and stajati 2).
