Fog Horns

Last night, being a foggy one on the San Francisco Bay, I was kept awake by a concert of fog horns. Finally, during the early morning hours the sounds ceased and I was able to fall into a deep asleep to where it was difficult to awaken from it when the time came for me to do so. This caused me to think that unless you live near an ocean or bay, one would not know the experience of hearing fog horns in the night. This also made me wonder about the system of fog horns -- how they are used, how sailors can determine where land or another ship is so they do not collide in the thick mist. Thank you.

general idea suggestion/request?

I'm not a Wikipedia expert, so I've no idea where to put this type of general, Wiktionary-related request, so I'm putting it here:

Have people ever discussed having each and every word on Wiktionary (if applicable) have a link to the en.wikipedia.org article somewhere on it, off to the right at the bottom or top perhaps?

I recall that many Wikipedia pages have links to Wiktionary (mostly when there's some sort of specific reason, I think), and possibly vice versa as well (here to there)... though I'm thinking it might not be a bad idea for it to just be a universal standard, one or both ways.

Which is why I asked if it had been discussed. I figure this sort of thing may have been previously discussed and junked for various reasons... Maybe it's too English-centric an idea, maybe it causes too much clutter, or extra traffic, I don't know.

The problem is, even if we had an automatic way to determine whether the Wikipedia article exists, we couldn't know whether it was about the same thing, or something else spelled the same (e.g. Microsoft BOB rather than a person Bob or apple-bobbing). If that's the case.. do you think people have been ever, I don't know, encouraged not to add Wikipedia links to articles? Does such an embedded link need to be backed up by some sort of specific type of reasoning as per some aspect of Wiktionary/Wikipedia guidelines, or is Wiktionary free to contain links to Wikipedia articles in all terms that have a relevant synonymous WP article, if people go to the fuss of doing it? (I.E. People just don't often tend to add WP links to word definitions most of the time, or something similar to that.) Tehmikuji 14:39, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
