Category:Proto-West Germanic masculine wa-stem nouns

From Wiktionary, the free dictionary

Proto-West Germanic masculine wa-stem nouns.

These nouns are masculine, typically with the following endings:

  • in the nominative singular: -u;
  • in the genitive singular: -was;
  • in the nominative plural: -wō or -wōs.

The stem classes are named from the perspective of Proto-Germanic and may not still be visible in Proto-West Germanic inflections. In Proto-Germanic, the endings were the same as that of the a-stems, but later sound changes caused the two classes to diverge.
