Old Norse -stem nouns.

These nouns are feminine, typically with the following endings:

  • in the nominative singular: the bare stem;
  • in the genitive singular: -var;
  • in the nominative plural: -var.

The stem classes are named from the perspective of Proto-Germanic and may not still be visible in Old Norse inflections. The stem has u-umlaut throughout.
