This category contains Ancient Greek terms that display the sound change of quantitative metathesis, in which two adjacent vowels switch their vowel lengths. This sound change occurred in the Attic dialect and sometimes in Ionic as well.
For example, the long vowel η (ē) and the short vowel ο (o) in the original (Ionic) form become the short vowel ε (e) and the long vowel ω (ō) in the Attic form:
