[edit]Attested as Calambre since the 10th century, in local Medieval Latin documents, and later as Caambre in Medieval Galician. From a substrate Celtic language, from a compound of *kala- (“stone?”)[1] + the zero grade of *mrogis (“mark, territory”).[2]
