Published in 1763 by Michel Adanson, from Ancient Greek καλαμάγρωστις (kalamágrōstis, a grass, probably Dactyloctenium aegyptium), from κάλαμος (kálamos, reed) + ἄγρωστις (ágrōstis, a grass, probably bermudagrass)
