[edit]Published in 1763 by Michel Adanson, from Ancient Greek καλαμάγρωστις (kalamágrōstis, “a grass, probably Dactyloctenium aegyptium”), from κάλαμος (kálamos, “reed”) + ἄγρωστις (ágrōstis, “a grass, probably bermudagrass”)
