Portuguese
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Uncertain. Different origins are proposed, including:
- From Old Tupi ka'a (“woods”) + y (“river”); and
- From Old Tupi ka'i (“monkey”), perhaps with the contraction of y (“river”). Compare Guaraní ka'i.
