The salient features of DiGeorge syndrome can be summarized by the mnemonic CATCH 22 (an allusion to Catch-22, a 1961 novel by Joseph Heller):

  • Cardiac defects,
  • Abnormal facies,
  • Thymic aplasia,
  • Cleft palate,
  • Hypocalcemia/hypoparathyroidism, and
  • 22q11.2 deletion.
