[edit]From Buss (“kiss”) + -erl (“-ie”). The first element is of onomatopoeic origin; compare Central Franconian Butz (“kiss”) and similar forms in many languages. See Czech pusa, Serbo-Croatian pusa, maybe related to Proto-Indo-European *bus- (“to kiss”).
