[edit]With dialectal -ā- → -ō- and subsequent shortening from Middle High German brāmber, from Old High German brāmberi, from Proto-West Germanic *brāmabaʀi (“blackberry, bramble”). Compare Dutch braambes, English bramberry, French framboise.
