Braten in der Röhre
Appearance
German
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Literally, “roast in the oven/tube”.
Noun
[edit]- (colloquial, vulgar) bun in the oven (a child in the womb)
Declension
[edit]- See Braten.
- Generally, the adverbial is in the dative case, even if the noun phrase is the direct object: Sie hat einen Braten in der Röhre (“She is pregnant”, literally “She has a joint in the oven”). However, if the verbal construction implies an “insertion”, the adverbial may also be in the accusative case; for example: einen Braten in die Röhre schieben (“to impregnate”, literally “to shove a joint into the oven”).
