[edit]From Middle High German *Brüessele, from Middle Dutch Bruessele, of Germanic origin, composed from *brōk (“marsh”) + *sali (“building, room”).
The Luxembourgish -éi- continues the umlaut of Germanic -ō-, in line with the derivation from Proto-West Germanic *brōk (“marsh”).
